MARK SCHULTZ RECEIVES STANDING OVATIONS AS WAL-MART EXECUTIVES “COME ALIVE”

image001 Platinum-selling, Dove Award winning singer/songwriter, Mark Schultz, received multiple standing ovations as the featured recording artist at this month’s Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Saturday Morning Meeting in Bentonville, AR.  An honor reserved for only a select few recording artists, last month’s featured artist was Trace Adkins. Schultz was invited to appear at this exclusive executive gathering July 18 in preparation for the release of his highly anticipated, fifth studio album, Come Alive, releasing Aug. 25 on Word Records.

Walmart VP of Entertainment Merchandising, Greg Hall, introduced Schultz, who opened with “What It Means To Be Loved,” a new song from Come Alive that pays tribute to all those who respond in love in spite of difficult circumstances.  Visibly moved by the song, the audience responded with a resounding standing ovation.  Following the song, Schultz dialoged on stage with Hall, discussing his life story and how, as a former orphan himself, he was inspired to support the James Fund, which provides assistance for widows and orphans.  Schultz received his second standing ovation after closing with his song “Letters From War,” the centerpiece of a recent U.S. Army campaign.

In a light moment in front of the crowd, Schultz joked, “I think I deserve a Sam’s Club card, since I’m up singing so early.”  Later, while Schultz was seated after his appearance, Wal-Mart President and CEO, Mike Duke, surprised Schultz by inviting him to return to the stage and presenting him with a Sam’s Club card to the roar of laughter and delight from the audience.

“Wal-Mart is such an advocate for the consumer, keeping prices low and still having quality products,” says Schultz, impressed by the organization’s commitment and concern for its customers.  “It is clear that family values drive all that Wal-Mart does.”

While Schultz was appearing at the Wal-Mart meeting, his song “He Is” from Come Alive was airing all over the nation as it became the No. 1 Most Added AC Christian R&R song at radio.  Released to radio July 10, the song is an expression of hope that was inspired by the stories of two families battling cancer. “He is, He was and always will be. It’s a pretty important message–no matter what kind of rough road you are riding through,” says Schultz.

Singing “He Is,” “What It Means To Be Loved” and other new songs from Come Alive, as well as fan favorites spanning his celebrated career, Schultz has embarked on a 40-plus-city tour.  Hitting the festival circuit this summer, he is joined by Point Of Grace on his “Come Alive” tour that launches Sept. 10 in Decatur, IL.  With tickets for the “Come Alive” tour already on sale in select markets, music fans are responding, collectively purchasing tickets by the thousands.  For the latest list of tour dates, visit www.markschultzmusic.com.

One of Christian music’s most acclaimed singer/songwriters, Schultz’s first new studio album in nearly three years, Come Alive, is also his most personal recording to date, inviting listeners to “come alive” through these songs birthed by stories of hope, loss, joy and redemption.  Pulling from real life experiences, the songs on Come Alive were inspired by families dealing with cancer, special needs and through Schultz ‘s coast-to-coast bicycle ride that raised over $250,000 to benefit the James Fund.  Produced by Brown Bannister (Amy Grant, Third Day, CeCe Winans), Shaun Shankel (Beyoncé, Hilary Duff), Bernie Herms (Natalie Grant, Avalon) and Paul Mills (Third Day, Bluetree), the album also features collaborations with such hit making songwriters as Bart Millard and Barry Graul of Mercy Me, Matthew West, Joy Williams and Herms.

Lauded at No. 1 on Billboard’s “Hot Christian Adult Contemporary Songwriters” list and with nine No. 1 radio hits so far, Schultz’s celebrated career highlights include being named Christian Music Today’s Male Vocalist in 2003, his 2005 release, Mark Schultz Live…A Night of Stories & Songs, selling RIAA certified Platinum and garnering him his first GMA Dove Award, and being featured on the national TV programs 48 Hours, CNN and more.  In fact, his recent appearance on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was re-broadcast July 17.  For more information on Mark Schultz, visit www.markschultzmusic.com.

Free Music by Lyrycyst – Join the Campaign

I received the following message from our good friend, Steven Cooper, who performs as Lyrycyst. His music is great and he has a real passion for God and music.

Hey Everyone!

As many of you already know, last week we embarked on a mission to give away free music all over the world.  So far the response has been incredible.  We have amazing fans (just like yourself) all over the map (U.S., Europe, Australia, etc.) passing out FREE DOWNLOAD CARDS to everyone they come across.  Some fans have handed them out at schools, nightclubs, the mall, you name it!  News stations and media are starting to take notice and ask what this whole campaign is about!  I’ve been telling them that my fans and I are tired of the degrading rap music that is all over the radio and TV, and we’re on a mission to get positive hip-hop into the hands of millions.  Even if we have to give it away for free!

I will be sending real-time updates on the progress of the campaign along with cool stories of how people are using these cards to spread the music to the people who need it.  Dylan in Seattle, WA handed out cards to everyone at his summer camp this past week and everyone loved him for it.  Who doesn’t like receiving free music?  Our final goal is 1 MILLION DOWNLOADS.

Get your own FREE DOWNLOAD CARDS to give out to friends, family, co-workers, etc!  These cards are a great way to introduce my music to people, without them having to pay to get it.  Just [email lyrycyst@hotmail.com] and send me your name and address.  I will mail you cards to hand out anywhere you want.  Once you run out, shoot me a message and I will send you more.  It’s all pretty easy…  Together we can introduce positive hip hop to millions across the globe!

If you haven’t downloaded my music yet….

NEW MUSIC VIDEO TAKES ON GANG VIOLENCE – Song Portrays a Real-Life Event for Singer Bobby Bishop

In an effort to bring attention to the growing epidemic of gang violence, hip-hop artist Bobby Bishop has released a music video entitled “Please” from the new Chosen/Executive/Universal Music CD, Everyday Man.   Bishop wrote the song after gang-related shootings outside his home near Boston threatened his family.
“I’ve had the privilege of reaching out to the local gang population here in my neighborhood for some years now,” says Bishop.  “We purchased our home in order to be available to our neighborhood youth.  We have offered an open-door policy for neighborhood kids to spend quality time in a positive, God-centered environment.  The night I drove up to police tape and the Gang Task Force in my yard was like a slap in the face. As a father, the alpha male instinct just kicked in, and I rushed the crime scene to get some details. Two kids had shot themselves in a car in front of our home. Just last month was deja vu, as we awoke to gunshots.  Lacking discernment, I ran outside and subsequently stepped in a pool of blood.  Such reckless behavior stems from people who have little regard for life, including their own.”

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, there are 27,000 different gangs and 788,000 active gang members in the U.S.  Every city in America with a population greater than or equal to 250,000 reported gang activity, according to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.Like many large cities in the United States, Boston has experienced an epidemic of youth homicides. In 2006, more than half of Boston’s gun homicides involved gang-related motives, according to the Boston Globe. Bishop believes the music video of “Please” will bring awareness to the growing problem of gang violence and youth suicide.
“My hope is that the song and the video of ‘Please’ will be used as a tool for awareness, conviction, and peace,” says Bishop. “I’ve come to realize that there isn’t a lot of music out there that speaks directly to this issue.  I didn’t grow up around street violence and it’s only been in the past fifteen years that I’ve really been exposed to such instances, most recently in my own neighborhood.  Some people just don’t realize there’s a bigger world out there beyond their disputes and pride. We all need Jesus as our remedy.”

Named by CCM Magazine as one of the top artists in Christian hip-hop, Bishop began serving teenagers as a youth minister in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1996, and has been there ever since. He began writing and recording rap music as a teenager himself, and the fusion of his faith in God and a passion for rap was a natural one. He realized his experience as a youth mentor and minister gave him the opportunity to reach out using hip-hop, particularly as he discovered his knack for storytelling.” Amy’s Song,” the true story of a teenage rape victim, gained a tremendous amount of exposure upon its initial release in 2002 and set the stage for Bishop’s national career. Bishop has since been featured on national tours with The Seven Project, and shared stages with countless Christian music artists from John Reuben to Jars of Clay.  He has recorded songs with KJ-52, Pigeon John, Michael Sweet, and been featured on multiple nationally-distributed projects including DJ Maj’s The Ringleader (Gotee Records/EMI), Best of the Submissions Volumes 1,2&3 (Beatmart Records/Sony BMG), and Pee Wee Callins’ Street Soul (Beatmart Records/Sony BMG), to name a few.

The “Please” track was produced by New Orleans’ native Brian “Enock” Perales who has a long resume in the music business, including production for Lil’ Wayne.  He is currently a campus missionary in Louisiana.

Everyday Man has been given rave reviews by Christianity Today, About.com, Jesus Freak Hideout, among other media outlets.  For more information, visit: www.BobbyBishop.com.

CHYNNA PHILLIPS TEAMS UP WITH SINGER/SONGWRITER VAUGHAN PENN FOR NEW DUO “CHYNNA & VAUGHAN”

PhillipsChynna Phillips, one third of the pop supergroup Wilson Phillips, announces a new phase in her music career as she joins independently-famed singer/songwriter Vaughan Penn to form the duo “Chynna & Vaughan.” The group’s debut album titled, One Reason, releases Oct. 6 on Reunion Records, an imprint of Christian music’s Provident Label Group.

Phillips and Penn first met in 2007 and although their musical career paths were distinctive and unique, Chynna & Vaughan naturally formed a creative partnership based on their passion to share the hope of Christ with a hurting world.

Phillips says, “This is such an important time in my life. Although I did accomplish a lot of the things I wanted to as an artist and songwriter during all the touring, talks shows and the awards as a member of Wilson Phillips, nothing compares to what I’m doing now.” She adds, “Nothing is more gratifying as a Christian believer than being able to thread my faith and love for Jesus into my music.”

“Contemporary Christian music is for me, the very best music in the world,” Penn says. “It’s the most beautiful, healing and hopeful music that exists. We are doing this because it’s our calling. We want our music to bring light to dark places and offer healing for listeners.”
Produced by Penn, One Reason conveys themes of redemption, forgiveness, and hope with a musical canvas of authentic, organic, and honest instrumentations and harmony-rich arrangements.

The project’s title track and first radio single is already generating buzz, receiving six early adds at radio including Tulsa’s KXOJ and Houston’s hit station KSBJ, which exists as one of the top five Christian AC radio stations based on listenership.

Phillips says of the single, “This is a song about the busyness of life. All of us have an incredible task balancing daily activities with cell phones and email devices attached to us, and oftentimes it just seems impossible. The lyrics of “One Reason” ask us to put the Lord first, amid the craziness, and remember that He is our one reason for life.”

The duo of Chynna & Vaughan is the result of a divine collaboration between two artists with diverse musical backgrounds but shared journeys of faith. Chynna Phillips achieved vast international fame and recognition as a member of the pop sensation, Wilson Phillips. With massive radio hits such as “Hold On”, “Release Me”, “You’re In Love”, and “Impulsive”, Wilson Phillips sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Yet despite this extraordinary success, Chynna did not experience true joy and peace until she gave her life to Jesus Christ six years ago. Phillips has been married to actor William Baldwin since 1995. The couple have three children: daughter Jameson (born 2000), son Vance (born 2002), and daughter Brooke (born 2004).

Vaughan Penn earned respect and credibility in the national independent music scene by receiving such accolades as “Top 40 Breakthrough Artist of the Year” (New Music Weekly Awards 2007.) Her songs have been prominently featured in over 100 films and television programs including Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, Numb3rs, Boston Public, The Hills, Laguna Beach, Kicking & Screaming, and many others. She also toured with such renowned artists as Huey Lewis and The News, Emmylou Harris and Edwin McCain. However, during a life-threatening medical condition four years ago, Vaughan committed her music career to God and began to write songs to specifically encourage others to develop a relationship with Christ.

HAWK NELSON INTRODUCES LIVE * LIFE * LOUD CD COVER & TRACK LISTING

Hawk Nelson CD Cover

“Live Life Loud is really about encouraging our fans to do just that. To live your life loud, to embrace all that life brings your way and experience every moment of it to the fullest extent. This is the message we want our fans to come away with after they hear the album.” — Hawk Nelson bassist Daniel Biro.

Recorded in Nashville, TN, Hawk Nelson enlisted producer Steve Wilson to craft what was to become a 12-song set that sweeps from the manic to the mellow and all points in between. Live Life Loud was recorded in two separate sessions, due to a hectic touring schedule, and marks the first time the band wrote songs together by just jamming as a band. The album also features collaborations with Chris Stevens, Matthew Gerrard, TobyMac, Trevor McNevan and Bart Millard.  This fourth studio album release from the band hits fans’ hands on September 22nd.  The first two singles “Live Life Loud” and “Meaning of Life” are currently available on iTunes.

Also make sure you pick up your pair of TOMS Shoes to help the band get their goal for their Haiti shoe drop. For every pair of shoes purchased via Hawk Nelson’s website equals a pair of shoes that TOMS donates to a child in Haiti towards the band’s ongoing involvement with the Hands & Feet Orphanage.

Larry Norman on iTunes

If you are like me, you purchase most of your music these days online. Until recently, the only Larry Norman album available on iTunes was a remix of Only Visiting This Planet. Over the past several months since Larry’s passing, iTunes has been adding to the available collection. You can now purchase Upon this Rock, Only Visiting This Planet, So Long Ago in the Garden, and In Another Land. I recently purchased So Long Ago and In Another Land, to complete his well-regarded three album trilogy that began with Only Visiting this Planet. I’ve been listening to these albums a lot over the past week or so and I’m amazed at how relevant they are today. All are from the early 70s and were made during a time of great political unrest and world conflict…not too different from today. Larry boiled it all down in “The Great American Novel” off of Only Visiting this Planet – “Don’t ask me for the answers, I’ve only got one; that a man leaves his darkness when he follows the Son.”

If you’re not familiar with Larry Norman, he was a righteous rocker from the early 70s. He released his music at a time when there was not a clear divide between Christian and secular music. He was well-regarded by his peers. George Martin, producer of many Beatles albums, worked with Larry on Only Visiting this Planet. He founded The Vineyard Bible study group to assist rockers with drug and other addictions. His influence continues with today’s alternative rock stars, including Black Francis of the Pixies, and many others. His music is well worth exploring.

"FIRE IT UP" WITH THOUSAND FOOT KRUTCH – iTunes Single "Fire It Up" Available Today and More

With a little over a month until fans will get their hands on the fifth studio album “Welcome to the Masquerade” from rockers Thousand Foot Krutch, a new single from the forthcoming project is made available today on iTunes.  The single “Fire It Up” is the second single fans have heard from the new CD as the first single, “Bring Me to Life,” was a free download with the Taco Bell “Feed The Beat” program earlier this Spring.

“Fire It Up” is a high-energy, crunchy riff-filled, rock song that is being featured in a major movie trailer for “G.I. Joe”, two upcoming video games (MX vs. ATV Reflex and upcoming EA Sports NHL 10 (game releases September 15th, soundtrack July 31st)), used on ESPN’s airing of the NASCAR Nationwide series feature on Kyle Busch and on the Versus Network during the Edmonton IndyCar race this past weekend.

Terry Lingner, IndyCar on Versus Producer had this to say,  “IndyCar Racing is all about power and sound and we are flat to the floor with Thousand Foot Krutch’s material.  Talk about a great mix.  TFK in your face and the power appeal of land rockets!”

As fans prepare for the ball of a lifetime with “Welcome To The Masquerade,” early thoughts on this powerhouse single have been coming in. Here are what some media outlets have said about “Fire It Up”:

“‘Fire It Up’ captures the edge and energy that fans have come to love about TFK. And if this track is any indication to the future of the band, these guys aren’t showing any signs of cooling down anytime soon!”
– John DiBiase, JesusFreakHideout.com

“Thousand Foot Krutch’s ‘Fire It Up’ features everything you’ve come to love about the band. It’s a raucous number that will get your heart pumping, your feet moving, and your head banging. ‘Fire It Up’ fires on all cylinders.”
–C.E. Moore, TheChristianManifesto.com

“Taking their signature punk attitude meets full fledge rock and roll to an all new level, ‘Fire It Up’ quickly stands out as one of Thusand Foot Krutch’s best songs to date.”
–James Shotwell, Under The Gun Review

“‘Fire It Up’ instantly burns itself into the memory and becomes TFK’s most rawkfist anthem to date.”
– Matt Conner, Soul-Audio.com

“‘Fire It Up’ is vintage Thousand Foot Krutch, with obvious arena play potential in the way of former hits like “Rawk Fist” and “Move.”
–Tyler Hess, ChristianMusicZine.com

Thousand Foot Krutch will release “Welcome To The Masquerade” on Tooth & Nail Records September 8th.  The band will also be out on the Creation Festival: The Tour this fall along with FM Static.

Kicking off Monday, July 27, at Nashville’s Exit In, Seabird will open for Denver-based band Meese, who released its full-length debut, Broadcast, this summer and piano pop-rock group Barcelona, whose music was most recently featured on the season finale promos for ABC’s award-winning medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy.”

The tour will visit major markets including Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Francisco. An up-to-date tour itinerary is available at http://www.meesemusic.com/tour/.

Also in the works for Seabird is a follow up to its 2008 label debut, ‘Til We See The Shore. The yet-to-be-titled sophomore album features top-notch production by Paul Moak (Mat Kearney, Sixpence None The Richer) and Matt Hales from Aqualung and is slated to release in December. The project’s first single will be serviced to radio this fall, while Seabird will debut music from its forthcoming record on a 30+-city tour with David Crowder Band beginning Oct. 1, 2009 in San Antonio. Follow Seabird’s tour and studio blog at youtube.com/seabird.

“I’ve never been as excited to be back in the studio as I am right now, says Seabird frontman Aaron Morgan. “To be honest, I was a little worried that we wouldn’t find songs that were as exciting as our debut album. I now believe with everything in me that this record is a natural progression to a more moving experience than anything we’ve recorded to date.”

Consisting of brothers Aaron (vocals/keys) and Ryan (guitar) Morgan as well as Preston Lane (drums), the Cincinnati-based band initially formed in 2004 when entering a local “battle of the bands” competition. Released June 24, 2008,‘Til We See The Shore, a collaborative effort with producers Jacquire King (Modest Mouse, Kings Of Leon, Tom Waits, Switchfoot)) and Allen Salmon (Mute Math, This Beautiful Republic), is an attempt to meet its fans where they are, to craft an album that “share[s] the emotions, victories, and defeats we all experience as normal, everyday people,” says Aaron.

Music from ‘Til We See The Shore has received phenomenal national publicity, featured on episodes of “Numb3rs,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and promos for ABC’s 12-time Emmy-nominated series, “Pushing Daisies.” The band was also recently recognized by its hometown as “Artist of the Year” at the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards.
